Cathelijne Noorland (1983) started taking piano lessons with Frank Fahner at the age of eight. At age ten she took lessons with Benno Pierweijer at the Conservatory of Enschede. In 1999 she was invited to study with Willem Brons at the Conservatory of Amsterdam as his youngest pupil. Since 2004 she continued her study in Amsterdam with Mila Baslawskaja. In 2007 she received her Bachelor’s Degree and in 2009 she finished the Master of Music program, specializing in chamber music. Cathelijne not only plays solo piano but is also very involved in chamber music.
Cathelijne received national and international prizes and is a laureate of the “Prinses Christina Competition” (’98, ’99, ’01 and ’03), the “International Steinweg Wettbewerb Germany”, the “SJMN Competition”, the “International Charles Hennen Competition” and the “Zonnewende Competition”. During the Prinses Christina Competition of 1999 and 2003 she received the “PRC Bouwcentrumprize” awarded to the best accompanist during the competition. In 2004, together with clarinettist Arno Stoffelsma, she was a finalist in the “Silver Vriendenkrans Competition of the Concertgebouw”. Together with Arno Stoffelsma and Saskia Plagge she forms “Trio Burlesco”. This trio won the “Debuut” concert series for 2006 which took them to all the main concert venues in the Netherlands. In 2008 the trio won the audience-, the press- and the AVRO-prize at the Vriendenkrans competition, which gave them the opportunity to record a CD.
Cathelijne has participated in several master classes, both in- and outside The Netherlands. Amongst others, here teachers were Menahem Pressler, Rudolf Jansen, Jan Wijn, Tan Crone, Rian de Waal, Joanna MacGregor and Stephen Kovacevich. She also had ensemble-lessons from Theo Olof, Stefan Metz, George Pieterson, Nobuko Imai, and Han de Vries. Cathelijne performs on a regular basis both in the Netherlands and abroad. She played in most of the important concert venues of the Netherlands including the Concertgebouw. She made several concert tours abroad, organized by the “Prinses Christina Competition”, taking her to the United Arab Emirates, Japan, France, Greece, Switzerland, Mexico, Guatemala and Nicaragua. She also performed in England, Germany, Belgium, Italy and Albania. In October 2003 she travelled for the second time to Japan, accompanying the finalists of the “Prinses Christina Competition”. From Japan she went on to New York to perform with the winners of the “Prinses Christina Competition” in the Carnegie Recital Hall. Cathelijne performs regularly on radio and TV, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
